I’ll
focus on a few cool new items that I would consider
worthy of good gift for that person who appreciates
gizmos and gadgets. First, if you are a business professional,
you know the need to always have your critical files
at your fingertips at all times, and what perfect way
to keep them at reach with a USB flash drive. Recent
advances in flash memory technology have made the cost
of chips extremely low. In particular, the aptly named
“Gizmo” from memory manufacturer Crucial
Technologies comes in a 2 GB capacity that can attach
to your keychain and give you extremely flexible, convenient,
and easy to use storage on the go for your most important
files. The item retails for a nice $55 and is available
at most online computer component web sites.
Mobile professionals know the need to be constantly
connected to their business. A great way to make this
a reality these days is to utilize a smart phone. If
you happen to be a Verizon Wireless customer, you may
be interested in the latest gadget from Motorolla called
the Q. It is a thin and sleek smart phone that runs
a stripped down version of Microsoft Windows and lets
most mainstream users navigate and access their favorite
applications in a handheld device. The Q will provide
you seamless access to your Outlook email, contacts,
and calendar along with Windows Media player to play
your music and videos. Make sure you get Verizon’s
unlimited broadband data plan to go along with it and
you’ll be able to surf the internet as well at
very nice speeds. Holiday specials now are offering
the Q for around $100 which seems to be the price point
for most average consumer making techno gadget purchase.
If you are still using a traditional tube based CRT
computer monitor, now is a great time to upgrade to
a nice LCD flat panel monitor. This technically is a
gift to the eyes because of the vast improvement in
visual quality, sharpness, and brightness of your computing
experience. Prices of LCD flat panels have come down
drastically over the past year or two and this holiday
season is the perfect time to pick one up. Keep in mind
that most older computers have only analog output, so
if you are buying one as an upgrade over a CRT, make
sure the flat panel has both digital and analog inputs.
If you are in the market to make a purchase of an LCD
monitor, look for a generous 19” model which should
run around $250. The extra desktop space you’ll
get will be much appreciated.
