Why develop a corporate electronic newsletter strategy?
I am constantly asked to comment on the effectiveness of a corporate newsletter strategy and whether it makes sense to invest in developing and maintaining one, especially when it seems that everyone is doing so. My answer is: “it depends.” Electronic newsletters sent directly to your clients can be extremely effective and generate serious business inquiries that lead to increased revenues, if done correctly and by the right people. However, they also have the potential to get lost among the volume of other inbox email and furthermore, if not implemented properly might even damage your professional image and business. This article will clarify some of the points concerning whether your organization should engage in launching an electronic newsletter and how to hopefully make sure that your reader looks forward to each publication and not just simply press the delete key.

Computer Shortcuts

Have you ever wondered what the right mouse button is for on the mouse that you use?

Many people actually do not know. Normally computer savvy people are the ones that know what it is for and for some reason never divulge the secret of the right click. What about the scroll wheel, ever attempt to press it or get the weird circle with the up and down arrows? These are actually shortcuts that are built in to the operating system; do not be afraid of them.

Each day we field scores of calls on all sorts of business and technology related topics. Each month we select an interesting question and post our response online.
Question
Which search engine is the best?
Answer

Search engines are a convenient way to find similar bits of information contained within the billions of pages on the Web. Most of the time to the end user it doesn’t matter how the results get generated but to the educated user, knowing the corporate philosophies of the top search engines might help to consistently generate better results. So to answer the question of which search engine is best is to ask you the question, what are you looking for?

If you answer that you are looking for the most information on a given topic then I would say your best bet is to use Google, MSN Search or Yahoo! Search. Of course there are others, but like anything else, it’s probably a good idea to use the engines that aren’t afraid to invest heavily themselves and their technology. It’s a known fact that Google wants to make all of the information contained in the universe available online and while Google quietly goes about indexing (now over 8 billion pages!) the folks at Microsoft have redesigned their search engine and are promoting theirs as the one to use for higher quality results.

So which is better? It’s really a personal choice of give and take. Personally, I use Google because it’s faster and easier but when I can’t find clarity on Google I will use MSN Search and usually find what I’m looking for. I would suggest you try one or the other for a week, then switch and assess after the fact and see which you liked better, which generated better results and which was easier to use. You might be surprised that while Google is busy becoming a verb, MSN Search and Yahoo! Search are in a hurry to catch up.

Electronic Newsletter Development
Today's market is totally consumer-driven and with the multitude of options available, consumers have adopted the "what have you done for me lately" attitude towards the purchase of products and services knowing that a cheaper alternative and possibly a better option might be just a phone call away. This is why it is more important than ever to stay in front of your customers and prospects and remain in front of them all the time.

We're not saying to show up on every doorstep with the morning paper and a Starbucks latte, but we are suggesting to stay in front of them virtually, and the most cost-effective way right now to do so is with an electronic newsletter sent directly to their computer desktops both at work and at home. Having a constant reminder of who you are and what you do is important but reminding your customers and prospects how you can help to solve their business challenges is the key.

Google Earth
The team at Google has created and amazing application that is the next generation of a product named keyhole, a 3D digital satellite-data-driven model of the earth. Use Google Earth to locate street names, intersections, city’s, states, zip codes, famous tourist attractions and even your own home, the search is truly world-wide. If you are interested in real estate then use Google Earth to check out the area from above, it’s cheaper than renting time in a helicopter and while MAPQUEST and Yahoo! Maps highlight your trip on 2D street drawings, Google Earth overlays your journey on actual satellite imagery. “Turn right at the BP across from Wendy’s” now has a new meaning. If you’re interested in trying out Google Earth simply click on the link below to download and then install the free version.
